A Modern Perspective on Communication

We live in a world full of technology. It is really amazing when you stop and think about all the wonderful things we have now that we didn’t have just twenty years ago. I have seen elementary school children with iPods and Blackberries. Why in the world would a child young enough to be in elementary school need to carry a cell phone around? It is just funny for me to think about how we lived for so long without many of these things like cell phones or computers and now if we are without them, we seem lost.

They point is that we do get to live is a world with many great inventions that can truly help us live a little easier. It is so nice being able to make a quick phone call or send a text message if you want to get really technologically savvy. Some of the more mature people I know are just now starting to send text messages, but they are much more comfortable calling. It really can make a huge difference if you get separated from friends or family and you want to call them. It is more convenient to have your own phone than trying to find a pay phone. Of course, most of the members of the younger generation are more comfortable with sending a text message. Rather than just calling, these kids will carry on conversations back and forth for hours through text messages. If they are caught without a texting plan on their cell phone bill, they might be paying hundreds of dollars in charges.

Now let’s think for a minute about all of the great improvements with computers. We have the internet which allows us to look up information and even buy or sell things online. The best way that internet reaches out to almost everyone is through email. Many people have email accounts whether they are for personal use or for business or school. They can be used as a way to communicate with long distance relatives or even communicate with a boss or employee. There are many places to set up email accounts and there’s even Microsoft Outlook trainings if you need help getting your account set up. It is up to you to decide which email account you use and it is usually based on preferences. Many places are set up to be free of charge.

So the next time you check your email or answer your cell phone, think for a minute about what your life would be like without it. This will give you a little perspective and make you more thankful for our everyday conveniences.
