Strong X-ray burst from black hole ripples by galactic dust in new NASA impression

NASA has unveiled a new graphic of ripples in dust clouds produced by an unexpected black gap X-ray burst noticed in 2015.

The impression, a mix of observations taken by the NASA workhorse Chandra X-ray Observatory and the optical Pan-STARRS telescope in Hawaii, reveals blue concentric rings of dust all over the V404 Cygni black hole (the Chandra perspective) on the backdrop of bordering stars (as found by the Pan-STARRS telescope).
