Learners from arid locations shy from tertiary schooling, reveals KUCCPS

Pupils from arid and semi-arid regions are hesitant to implement for university placement, Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Providers (KUCCPS) has disclosed.

In a statement dated July 4, KUCCPS chief government Dr Mercy Wahome noted there was a mentality in the location that completing Sort 4 was the end of instruction.

In accordance to Wahome, the mentality has led to failure by numerous candidates who skilled for college education and learning to implement for even further experiments in tertiary establishments.

“The most afflicted counties include things like Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Turkana, Marsabit, West Pokot, Lamu and Kilifi counties, and may well be a setback to the government’s education-for-all need,” she reported.

She appealed to the leaders in the afflicted counties to stimulate and mobilise youthful individuals who have skilled for admission to universities and schools to apply.

Wahome, on the other hand, said more than half of the 2020 KCSE pupils who are qualified for college placement have applied for programs.

According to her, 20,725 candidates are but to implement for university placement out of the 43,425 who missed placement only 22,700 who missed placement have re-used.

“We attractiveness to these who did not merit their first choices mainly because of level of competition and have not however revised their decisions to do so ahead of the Monday deadline,” suggests Wahome.

In accordance to Wahome, the application method is scheduled to shut tomorrow at 3pm.

 A complete of 142,540 learners scored grade C+ and higher than, qualifying for admission in universities throughout the country.

By June 11, out of the 142,540 candidates who certified for diploma courses, only 92.5 per cent had utilized for their desired classes in universities and TVET schools. This translates to 131,833 college students.

Even so, 43,425, which is 7.5 for every cent, applied but skipped their diploma possibilities or did not post programs at all.

“Besides sending them messages, we have contacted them by e mail and cellular phone calls directly and by the principals of their former educational facilities to remind them to use just before the Monday deadline,” added Dr Wahome
