Robert F. (Bob) Banking companies, 85, of East Lansing, Michigan, handed absent on July 22, 2021. He was a devoted partner, father, grandfather, colleague, mentor, and buddy.

Robert was born on January 18, 1936, in Struggle Creek, Michigan, to Person and Helen Banking institutions, but before long just after the relatives moved to Montclair, New Jersey. A graduate of Montclair Large Faculty, he been given a B.A. in Economics from Washington and Lee University and a Ph.D. in Labor Economics from The London University of Economics and Political Science (LSE). When attending the LSE in London, he achieved his upcoming spouse, Clare they married in 1963. He was a member of the LSE school from 1963 till 1967, when he been given a occupation provide from Michigan State University (MSU) and they moved to East Lansing. Together, they elevated 3 small children, Justin, Rachel, and Sarah.

Robert experienced a prolonged and distinguished 40-yr vocation at MSU. He arrived to MSU as a joint faculty member in the College of Labor and Industrial Relations and the recently fashioned James Madison College or university (JMC). In 1971, he became Dean of James Madison School, a position he held right up until 1979. In 1979, Robert joined MSU’s central administration serving in the Provost’s Business office in lots of capacities, which include as Affiliate Provost and Associate Vice President for Educational Human Assets, a place he held until eventually retirement in 2007. He served on the Vice-Presidential Variety Advisory Group and MSU Institutional Range in Motion coordinators team. In 2007, he been given the esteemed MSU Life span Accomplishment Award for Excellence in Variety in recognition for getting, “constantly been a sturdy supporter of variety initiatives and programming at the University.” He will be remembered most fondly by the Michigan State University local community for his congenial, collegial spirit and primarily by all faculty, pupils, and workers whom he encouraged to obtain their targets. At his retirement, the Provost’s Business set up The Robert F. Financial institutions Award for Institutional Leadership. At the time, the MSU News Bulletin observed, “Banks’ philosophies about educating, mastering, and major by instance have affected and guided the lives of 1000’s of MSU school, workers, and pupils in the course of the environment.” The award has acquired economic support from the Big Ten Tutorial Alliance and members of the MSU community. An endowment was also established at James Madison College as a tribute to Robert with a gift from a JMC graduate who “will never fail to remember Dr. Banks’ instructing, encouragement, and assistance.”

Robert was an ardent Jazz aficionado his office environment walls shown the wonderful Jazz artists he admired. He was a longtime supporter of the MSU College or university of Music’s distinguished Jazz Reports Software and the annual East Lansing Summer time Solstice Jazz Festival. At his retirement, Robert “Bebop” Financial institutions was celebrated in live performance by the MSU College of Music’s Professors of Jazz. He served as the Chair of the Advisory Board for the Summer time Solstice Jazz Festival from 2012 right until his demise.

He is survived by his spouse of 57 many years, Clare, his three children, Justin (Estina) of Lansing, MI, Rachel of Washington, DC, and Sarah (Steve) of Plymouth, MI, two grandchildren, Carter and Emmagrace, and a cousin, Charles Stainback of Brooklyn, NY. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Margaret (Banking companies) Broughal of New York City, NY.

A memorial mass will be held on August 10th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in East Lansing. A memorial celebration will choose area at a later on date.
